Amanda K. Behrendt is a Senior Associate at the firm’s San Diego office. Her practice is primarily focused on medical malpractice defense, general liability, and medical/nursing board matters. Additionally, she offers presentations on healthcare compliance, MICRA, medical malpractice litigation, best nursing practices and documentation, as well as more specialized topics.

Mrs. Behrendt (née Crawley) joined Buchholz, Harris, Levine and Brennan in 2019. Her prior experience includes defending complex personal injury and high-exposure premises liability matters. She has also pursued personal injury and construction defect matters on the Plaintiffs’ side. This experience gives Mrs. Behrendt the unique lens of approaching each case from all angles.

Mrs. Behrendt prides herself on being an approachable yet tenacious litigant on behalf of her clients. She enjoys all aspects of litigation, from legal writing and motion practice to mediation and arbitration. In her last decade of practice, she has secured numerous dismissals on behalf of her clients; has successfully drafted and argued summary judgment motions, demurrers, and motions to strike; and has argued cases before the California Courts of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District. Additionally, she has achieved many settlements through effective and strategic negotiations.

Mrs. Behrendt obtained her J.D. from California Western School of Law in 2016, where she graduated with an area of concentration in Health Law and Policy, with honors, with a focus in medical malpractice litigation. During her time at California Western School of Law, she served as Philanthropy Chair of the Health Law Society and was inducted to the Pro Bono Honors Society after completing over 100 hours of pro bono legal service. Additionally, she had the opportunity to attend Southwestern Law School’s Entertainment and Media Law study abroad program in London, England in summer 2014, where she learned invaluable mediation and negotiation techniques.

In her spare time, Mrs. Behrendt enjoys reading, watching the New England Patriots, and spending time with her family.
